College Visits

The College and Career Center will be having two colleges visiting next week.  Both visits are open to all students in grades 9-12.

The times, dates, and colleges are listed below:

• Monday, March 7th at 10:00am: Hunter College
• Friday, March 11th at 10:15am: Tompkins Cortland Community College

Financial Aid Workshop Checklist

For those of you who have signed up for our SUNY Orange Admission and Financial Aid Night on Tuesday, March 1st, here are a few important reminders:

The event will start a 6pm at Middletown High School.

Both the student and the parent should be in attendance.

Due to time constraints, we advise that both the parent and student obtain their FSA ID online prior to the Financial Aid Workshop.  You can request your FSA ID number online at www.fafsa.ed.gov .  

It is imperative you do this as soon as possible!

YOU MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING TO THE WORKSHOP:

• Chromebook
• Student FSA ID (You should request your ID online at www.fafsa.ed.gov  ASAP)
• Parent FSA ID   (You should request your ID online at www.fafsa.ed.gov  ASAP)

YOU MUST BRING COPIES OF THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:

• Copies of Student 2015 federal tax return (if required to file)
• Copy of Student 2015 state tax return (if required to file)
• Copy of Student 2015 W-2’s
• Copies of Parent 2015 federal tax return (if required to file)
• Copy of Parent 2015 state tax return (if required to file)
• Copy of Parent 2015 W-2’s
• Documentation of any untaxed income received in 2015 for either student or parent (i.e. S.S.I., workers compensation, public assistance, disability)

Senior students and parents have their choice of two workshops we will be hosting at Middletown High School.  Registration is required and seating is VERY limited.  This program is for seniors only.

MHS SAT Prep

Middletown High School will be offering SAT prep courses beginning this March.  The prep courses will go over both the Math and Critical Reading portions of the exam.

There is an information meeting Tuesday, February 23rd at 2:30 in Room 251.

Classes will run in the evening from 6:00-8:00pm.  The registration fee is $100 and cash, check, or money order is accepted.  A textbook is also required: The Official SAT Study Guide (2016 Edition).

Monthly Update: Door of Acceptance

We have had a ton of new additions to our "Door of Acceptance" this month!  Congratulations to those seniors who have received college acceptances!

Don't see your name on our door?  Stop by the College and Career Center to fill out a graduation cap.

The new SAT!

College Board will be launching it's all new, redesigned version of the SAT.  Although many aspects of the exam will remain unchanged, there are some important differences to note.

Some key changes about the new SAT Exam:

• The essay is now optional.  Very few colleges actually looked at the essay portion on the old SAT.  Now students who aren't applying to colleges that require the essay portion can skip it altogether.
• There is no penalty for guessing!  The old SAT would deduct points for wrong answers, but would simply award no points for answers left blank.  Students should now make an effort to answer all questions in the section.
• The test is now 3 hours as opposed to 3 hours and 45 minutes (3 hours and 50 minutes if you opt to complete the essay).
• FREE practice exams for the first time ever.  You an access exams, quizzes, video help, and more online through the Khan Academy.  Check out their website for more information.

Rescheduled SAT

For those of you who were signed up for the January 23rd SAT, it has been rescheduled for February 20th.

If you lost (or never printed) your admission ticket, simply log onto your College Board account and navigate to "register now".  Your registration information should be displayed on your "My SAT" page.  Lastly, click on "print ticket".

Remember: if you don't have a printer at home, stop by the CCC to print your ticket!

If you have not yet received a review book for the upcoming SAT exam, stop by the College and Career Center for a FREE copy.  This book provides general information about the exam, as well as practice questions.
